What is bullying? Most of us think of it as just punching someone or kicking them. But it's so much more. Today it is worse. Much worse, which is one of the reasons we are making a change. Bullying comes in many forms. Something small as repetitive name calling or a punch in the arm. Or something as big as beating someone up, or saying something incredibly hurtful to someone through a computer. Why we still do it? That's the real question. How can we stop it? We have an answer. You may not notice it, but it is always there. You may assume it's gone entirely. You are wrong. It will never be banished as much as we'd like it to be. But we can come pretty close. Cyberbulling is when you create a persona online and target someone and intentionally embarrass them, say mean things or put them down. It usually comes to the extremes. If it occurs to you, tell someone. A lot of kids who are (or were) cyber bullied may not be here today. It has really come to that. Verbal abuse is the use of words to hurt someone. Telling a person they are nothing, worthless or making fun of one of their imperfections, verbal abuse. It can be stopped, we can make sure no one is mean to anyone by using words. These are only a few of the forms bullying takes. Sexual harassment, physical bullying...etc. In one school, up to 1/4 + people are getting bullied. In some schools, it's even worse. You may not see it, most people don't. But it still happens. It may be after school, online, on the bus, in their neighbourhood. Anywhere. Just by not bullying someone does not mean you are preventing it. When you make a campaign and speak up, stand up for friends, for strangers, for anyone, you are now doing something. If you make fun of someone behind their back, it's still bullying. Lighthearted or not, it still is a form of bullying. Watch what you say and what you do, because it affects your community, the people around you.So speak up, stand up, stand out. Make a change. It really does make a difference. Our proposal today is to stop bullying. Or at least advertise it. Advertise, the way we use it, means making it clear that bullying is always there. The girl sitting next to you, the one you never talk to, may be battling a cyberbully at home. But do you see it? The question is: do you look? Look for someone who seems down or sad, and verify or check that they are doing okay. You never know, but you could of just found a victim of bullying. Trust me, they're are many of them out there. So stand up with us, help us make a change. We want to stop bullying in our school, our community. To do so, we need your help. We cordially invite you to spread the word, get it out there, that bullying is there and we (as a school) cannot stand for it to be continued. Be cautious with what you do and what you say. It counts. To make a change in our school, Marina Village, we want to get the word out there. To do so, we will invite 10 people to spread the word around. Because after all, 100 starts with 1, but it also starts with 10. We also intend to hang up and hand out flyers advertising our campaign.Another thing we are going to do is start a blog and give the website address to the students and also advertise it on the flyers. If things go super well, we also have a lunch time pep rally in mind. We really want to prevent bullying at our school and we truly believe it is possible. We also believe that these ideas will surely get our school there.
Thank you and lets stop bullying as one…
